About Us

written by John McCormick

The discovery of the Sociopathic Style™ first emerged several years ago when Marion Trent contacted me for an interview for her documentary film on sociopaths and their victims. As she interviewed me, it was clear to her that I had a perspective she had not experienced from other clinicians and a perspective that rang true to her own experience. She was developing a recovery group and invited me to speak to the group. I continued with the them and began to discover that I too was a victim of what we have come to label the Sociopathic Style™.

I had not realized that I too was stuck, because I had not recognized the characteristics of the Sociopathic Style™ and the effects these characteristics have on the victims. From this base and Marion’s tenacious commitment to move this work forward we developed weekend seminars and support groups for victims. Together we forged a program of identification and life reconstruction. Marion’s passion to help others not get pulled into relationships with sociopaths --and to rebuild their lives if victimized by a sociopath-- has fueled the development of our work.

He will choose you, disarm you with his words, and control you with his presence. He will delight you with his wit and his plans. He will show you a good time, but you will always get the bill. He will smile and deceive you, and he will scare you with his eyes. And when he is through with you, and he will be through with you, he will desert you and take with him your innocence and your pride. You will be left much sadder but not a lot wiser, and for a long time you will wonder what happened and what you did wrong. And if another of his kind comes knocking at your door, will you open it? From an essay signed, "A psychopath in prison." Without Conscience: The Disturbing World of Psychopaths Among Us. -Dr. Hare
